Girls By Design is a program that encourages girls in grades 7-10 to pursue jobs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). On Friday, September 30, 4 grade 7-8 girls from Mariposa were sent, along with other schools to Bracebridge to participate in this program. While there, we listened to Natalie Panek, a Canadian female rocket scientist speak about her experiences in getting into a STEM job. Then we had 2 team building construction challenges, and an electrical personal challenge. Each girl received a journal to write about their goals and dreams. Girls by Design was a great experience for the girls that attended, and it sure got us thinking about what jobs we might want in the future.
