Principal’s Message

Welcome back to the 2019-20 school year! We are so excited to have both returning and new children and
families joining our Monarch family. Mariposa is truly a great place to learn and grow. Many new staff have
joined us this year and our entire team have demonstrated inspiring energy as they’ve prepared for the new
year. Our school looks so inviting thanks to our amazing custodians and staff who have worked so hard over
the summer months to prepare for school start-up.

At Mariposa ES we believe all students and staff can be successful learners. Every child needs to be given
opportunities to reach their potential through high expectations and a rigorous curriculum. This process
involves knowing our students as learners and responding with precise instructional strategies to support
them. Our staff will be focussing on personalized and responsive learning opportunities in Language,
Mathematics and supporting our students in applying self-regulation and executive functioning skills.

We are committed to creating classrooms where students are calm, alert, and learning. To enable our
children to be calm and alert learners, they need to be able to self-regulate. This is an important learning
skill across all curriculum areas and is essential for our children to embrace new learning opportunities and
deal with the challenges that are a part of everyday life in and out of school.

Newsletters will be posted on our website and also available for pick up at the office. To reduce our
ecological footprint we will not be printing monthly newsletters and sending them home. Our Twitter feed
and Facebook page are the best way to stay up to date with our school news.

We look forward to a successful year of working with our school families in our dedication to having all
children achieve their potential.
