October 10 Update

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope you take this time to relax, spend time with family and friends, and reflect on the many things we’re grateful for. A quick reminder that there will be no school on Monday as we observe the holiday. Enjoy the long weekend — we’ll see you back on Tuesday, refreshed and ready for another great week!

Terry Fox Fundraising and Celebration

Our fundraising for cancer research and the Terry Fox Foundation continues! Currently we have raised $3350! Awesome work Monarchs! This Thanksgiving weekend is the perfect time to ask family to donate. If cash is easiest, feel free to ask for a pledge form to be sent home. If you would like to donate online, you can find your child’s class’ platform at https://schools.terryfox.ca/107848

Fundraising will close on Wednesday, October 15th. On Friday, October 17th (weather permitting) we will gather outside to celebrate our efforts. If we reach our goal of $4500, participating staff will wear SUPER SILLY COSTUMES and compete in an obstacle course relay for all to witness and enjoy! We will also celebrate by hosting our first ever GREAT TEACHER BALLOON BURST!! The top earner from EACH CLASS gets to choose a balloon to burst over the head of a participating staff member. The balloons will be filled with a variety of gross, sticky, glittery, goopy surprises! Donate today to help make our celebration a success and to make a difference in the lives of individuals and their families and friends who are affected by cancer.

Picture Day

Picture Day is scheduled for Friday, October 17th. All students will have the opportunity to have their photo taken, and families will be provided with ordering information from the photography company. We look forward to seeing everyone’s smiles as we capture special memories of the school year.

Senior Boys’ Soccer

Ms. Murray and Mr. Smeaton are having a wonderful time coaching the Senior Boys’ Soccer Team this season. We have a very respectful team of Grade 7 and 8 boys who are training so hard and improving daily. The boys are learning that soccer is a game of space, teamwork and control. Although we are eager to score goals, we’ve also learned that defence is just as important as offence. We lost our first game against Parkview Elementary but learned so much and came back stronger for our second game against Doctor George Hall, winning 6-1. Our third game was on October 9th against Scott Young where we won 5-1.

Coaches Ms. Murray and Mr. Smeaton are working hard to prepare the boys for fun-filled and competitive games. We’d like to give a special shoutout to Mrs. Teel (MES French teacher) and Owen Downing (MES graduate) for showing up to every game, cheering on our boys and giving the best advice. We are so thankful for their dedication to our team.

Our next home game is October 10th at 4pm against Central Senior. Our tournament is on October 23rd. More details will be shared shortly. We’d love it if you’d come watch and support us at any of our upcoming games!
