TLDSB hosts fourth annual Educational Pow Wow and Drum Social

June is National Indigenous History Month and to celebrate, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) hosted the fourth annual Educational Pow Wow and Drum Social.

The gathering took place on June 4 at Gravenhurst High School, welcoming students and staff from area secondary and elementary schools to the celebration. Throughout the day, attendees were guided through various teachable moments from Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee perspectives to increase understanding and engagement with Indigenous culture, traditions, protocols, dances, and music.

A huge thank you to the TLDSB Indigenous Student Success Team for hosting the event, and the three masters of ceremonies; Oshkaabewis Dave Rice of Wasauksing First Nation, Odawa Anishinaabe Knowledge Holder Larry O’Connor of Sheshegwaning First Nation, and Elder Christopher Stock of Wahta Mohawk Territory. Additionally, many thanks to the local Indigenous community partners for their contributions to the day.
