Hot Lunch Reminder:
Great News! We are trying out a new vendor for 2 more Mondays before the end of the year. Quesada is now available on lunchbox for Monday, June 1st and June 8th. Now is your chance to try something new!
Walk for Water
Our whole school community will be learning about the importance of water to indigenous peoples and their connection to the environment. The SOAR Group will be leading two assemblies for students on Friday, June 12th, to share the knowledge they have acquired. The Walk for Water day for Mariposa is on Tuesday, June 17th. The Primary students will be walking the school track in the morning. Â
The Junior students (grade 4-6) will be walking on the TransCanada Trail from 12:30-1:30. Intermediate students (grade 7-8) will be walking on the trail from 2:20-3:20. Times are approximate and will be confirmed by your child’s homeroom teacher. We need parent volunteers for the Junior and Intermediate walks. Please contact your child’s teacher if you can join us. And please contact our office to confirm that your police check is up to date. Once homeroom teachers have enough volunteers for their class, a permission form will be sent out electronically. Please note that students in grades JK to 3 do not need permission forms; they will be staying on the school property. Many thanks for your support!
Guest Speaker
The SOAR Group invited Paralympic gold medalist Jon Thurston to speak to our grade 4-8 students, and he accepted! Jon will be speaking at 9:30 on Tuesday, May 19th. We are so excited to hear about his journey to the podium.
Girls At Bat
This was our first year working with Jays Care to run the Girls At Bat program at Mariposa, and it has been an incredible success! We had about 25 girls from Grades 3-5 in our program, joined by 7 Junior Leaders from older grades. The girls practiced twice a week in the gym from the middle of February until the middle of May. The goal of the program is to provide a safe space for girls to learn a new sport, build teamwork and have fun being active. We are very proud of the effort and heart our athletes brought to this season. The team enjoyed a friendly game against one another on Friday after school, and it was so exciting to see them use skills they learned in the gym transfer to playing on the diamond! Well done, girls! Thank you to our Junior Leaders for helping us set up and take down equipment, run activities during practice and keep our young ball players energized! We are also grateful to the Toronto Blue Jays – Jays Care organization for providing training exercises and equipment for the school as well as stickers, ribbons, shirts and hats for all of our athletes!
