Welcome Message
Welcome back to a brand-new school year at Mariposa Elementary School, where it is truly “A Great Place to Grow.” September is always such a special time as our classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds come alive with the energy of students returning, eager to learn and connect. Whether your child is returning or joining our Monarch family for the first time, we are excited to begin this journey together.
Much like the monarch butterfly, our students are growing, changing, and discovering new possibilities each day. This month, our focus is on building routines, forming strong connections, and creating welcoming spaces where every child can feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
We look forward to reconnecting with families. Your involvement helps our community to flourish. We encourage you to attend upcoming events, join our School Council and partner with us in supporting your child’s success.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. Together, we will help our students make this year one filled with growth, learning and memorable moments.

Open House
We will be hosting our open house night on Thursday, September 11th, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Families are welcome to visit their children’s classrooms from 5:30 to 6:15. Then everyone will go outside to socialize. Families will have the opportunity to pre-purchase either a full or half pizza for dinner. You will need to preorder your pizza today. Pizzas are paid for using school cash online. Half costs $8, and a full is $16. It is an extra-large pizza cut into 6 slices. Families can choose from cheese or pepperoni.
Absences
If your child is going to be absent, you can call the school (705) 953-9740 or email [email protected]. When contacting us please include your child’s first and last name and if possible their classroom teacher.
Transportation
Transportation information for the 2025-2026 school year is available via mybustoschool.ca, in the parent portal. Please use the email address you provided to the school when registering to access the information.
Changes to Pick up Plan
In order to ensure that students take the correct mode of transportation home we ask that if there are changes to the regular plan for returning home that you notify the school no later than 3 pm.
Fire and Lockdown Drills
Each school year, we have 6 fire drills and 3 lockdown drills. We will be having our first fire drill on September 16th and our first lockdown drill on September 19th. We understand that these drills can be stressful for some of our students, so our teachers will be preparing students in advance of the drills. We ask that parents talk about these at home as well.
School and Community Council
We will be hosting our first school and School and Community Council (Parent Council) meeting on Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:30 pm in the school library. We hope to see a strong turnout of parents joining us in support of our school.
Daycare will not be provided for this event. However, if this is a barrier for you to attend, please let us know in advance, and we will assist in making arrangements.
